Rothschild (horse)
Rothschild (1921–1941) was an American Thoroughbred racehorse and broodmare. After finishing unplaced in her only race as a two-year-old she won three of her four races as a three-year-old in the United States. In the following year she established herself as the best American filly by winning the Hirsch Handicap at Saratoga Race Course.
Background
Rothschild was bred by prominent New York horseman, John W. Davis who also bred and raced A. P. Goelet. She was one of the last horses foaled by the Goelet stallion Court Jester who was a leading sire in the United States and Great Britain. Rothschild's dam, West Village was a daughter of the Preakness Stakes winner On Wings of Eagles.
As a yearling, Rothschild was bought by Agnes Meyer Rothschild for $28,000 and was sent to be trained by Richard D. Fay at ac619d1d87
